Aleppo (or Halaby) is one of the most widespread chilli peppers in the Middle East and is named after the eponymous Aleppo city in Syria. This chilli pepper is used in both Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, mostly in dried form to season dishes. It is a mild pepper reminiscent of the Ancho chilli pepper and has a sweet, raisin-like flavour. It is an excellent replacement for, for example, paprika.
