Grains of paradise come from a plant which is family of Cardamom and grows along the coast and on islands in tropical West-Africa. The seeds of this plant is the spice. They are derived from the pulp of a sour, pear-shaped, orange fruit. Grains of paradise have a spicy and peppery taste and was used as a substitute for pepper.
